SUMMARY:From Engagement to Impact - Optimising Employer Supported Volunteering for Charities
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 25 March 2026 | 9.30am to 12pm | Online via Zoom\nMembers £27 | Non-members £43\nAre you looking to strengthen corporate relationships and unlock greater value from Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) schemes? \nThrough practical insights\, real-world examples\, and interactive group activities\, you will learn how ESV programmes operate within companies\, what drives employee engagement\, and how to design volunteering opportunities that align with corporate priorities. \nWe will look at how to shape compelling offers\, communicate impact effectively\, and build long-term\, mutually beneficial partnerships. We’ll also analyse a case study that illustrates how charities can position themselves strategically\, respond to corporate needs\, and move beyond one-off activities to create sustained value. \nWe’ll explore why many employer-supported volunteering offers are one-off\, narrow\, or difficult to sustain – and how volunteer-involving organisations can make better decisions about employer-supported volunteering while holding gratitude and staying open to partnership. \nMotivations for employer-supported volunteering are varied\, and we’ll look at insights from volunteer-involving organisations\, employers\, and employee volunteers. Rather than promoting a single model\, the session will introduce the idea of employer-supported volunteering as part of a wider partnership “portfolio”\, offering practical questions and approaches that help organisations protect capacity\, shape offers more effectively\, and design for longer-term value. \nThe session will also briefly look at how a small\, carefully scoped employer-supported volunteering offer operates in practice within volunteering infrastructure\, and how additional capacity has enabled more forward-looking and ambitious thinking about employer-supported volunteering as a gateway into deeper business partnerships\, including advocacy\, skills-sharing\, and trusteeship. \nYou will leave with actionable strategies\, shared learning from peers\, and a clear next step for enhancing your organisation’s corporate volunteering approach. \nThis session will cover:\n\nHow ESV schemes function inside companies and what motivates employee participation.\nAligning your charity’s volunteering opportunities with corporate priorities and organisational goals.\nPractical insights and real-world examples for creating volunteering offers that energise employees and fit into existing ESV frameworks.\n\nAbout the speakers\nKishma Smithurst\n\nKishma is an experienced volunteer engagement and community partnerships professional with nearly a decade of experience specialising in the design and delivery of inclusive\, impact-driven volunteering programmes across the charity sector. She combines strategic leadership with strong operational insight to grow participation\, strengthen partnerships\, and deliver meaningful social outcomes\, creating opportunities that align organisational goals with community needs. \nAt the Wellcome Trust\, she led the development of an employer-supported volunteering programme\, delivering up to thirty corporate volunteering events each year in partnership with community organisations across the country\, and gaining deep insight into what makes corporate volunteering effective\, inclusive\, and genuinely beneficial for all involved. \nJack Puller (he/him) – Volunteering and Active Communities Manager\, Manchester Community Central\n \nJack leads on volunteering and active communities at Manchester Community Central\, providing strategic oversight for Volunteer Centre Manchester and developing the organisation’s understanding and approach to how individuals and local groups are involved in shaping their environment\, influencing public policy\, and tackling local or shared issues. \nWorking across volunteer-involving organisations\, businesses\, employers and public partners\, Jack brings a systems-level perspective on employer-supported volunteering — seeing how offers land in practice across organisations with very different capacities\, needs\, and constraints. \nJack is particularly interested in how employer-supported volunteering can act as a gateway into deeper\, more sustainable business-VCSE relationships\, rather than existing as a one-off transactional activity. \nAVM Members’ discount\nAVM members are eligible for a discount on the event ticket price. SUMMARY:Advanced Leadership Series: Reframing Volunteer Teams
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 5 March 2026 | 9.30am to 12.30pm | Online via Zoom\nTicket prices: Members £43 | Non-Members £65\nChallenge perceptions\, reframe your teams\, and ignite new ways of thinking about volunteering. \nHow do your current assumptions about volunteers and paid staff shape the way your organisation works? What might change if we reimagined the idea of ‘one team’ in the voluntary sector? And how could exploring new academic and conceptual frameworks transform the way you lead and structure your team? \nThis training session is aimed at senior leaders in volunteering who are ready to have their perceptions and preconceptions challenged. Your facilitators\, Professor Anne-marie Greene and Professor Jenna Ward\, are leading researchers who have spent the last twelve years exploring and questioning the well-accepted norms that define volunteering and organisational life. \nIn this reflective and engaging session\, you’ll be introduced to concepts including master frames\, collective action frames\, and cognitive and emotional resonance. Together\, you’ll consider how these ideas can inform new approaches to working with volunteer and paid teams\, reshaping your structures\, and leading change. Designed as a safe and intellectually stimulating space\, the session will encourage dialogue\, curiosity\, and challenge – between participants and with the facilitators themselves. \nYou will: \n\nExplore how effective it really is to position volunteers and paid staff as ‘one team’.\nUnderstand how effective volunteer management is influenced by the concepts of frame and resonance.\nAppreciate the similarities and differences between cognitive and emotional resonance\, and how they impact the delivery of change.\n\nAbout the trainers\nAnne-marie Greene – Professor of Work and Diversity and Director of Research Impact at the School for Business and Society\, University of York\nAnne-marie researches equality\, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in theory and practice. Anne-marie is Artistic Director and Trustee of the Criterion Theatre\, Coventry\, a volunteer-run charity. \nJenna Ward – Professor of Organisation\, Work and Emotion and Dean of the College of Business and Law at Coventry University \nJenna’s research focuses on exploring emotionality within organisations\, organising and managing. Prioritising marginalised voices\, Jenna employs and develops innovative arts-based research methods that complement her ethnographically informed research designs to observe and probe beyond the surface of both organisations and individual experiences of work and organisations. \nAreas of interest include: emotional labour\, dirty work\, emotional dirty work\, visual and arts-based methods\, creative industries\, health care\, death work and the management and organisation of voluntary work and volunteers. Research has included working with organisations such as the Department of Health\, the National Trust\, the City of London\, NHS\, Samaritans and\, most recently\, England Netball. \nAbout the Advanced Leadership Series\nThe Advanced Leadership Series: Rethinking\, Developing and Leading for Impact is a professional development programme designed for senior leaders who: \n\nHave regional or national responsibility for volunteer services\nManage teams of volunteer coordinators and volunteer support staff\nLead remote or hybrid teams across multiple locations\nNeed to influence senior executives and secure resources for volunteer programmes\nWant to develop future-focused leadership skills for the evolving volunteer sector\n\nEach interactive session explores fresh perspectives on leadership\, innovation\, and team structures – blending research‑informed insight with practical tools to strengthen leadership capability and influence organisational culture. \nFacilitated by sector experts and leading academics\, the series creates space for reflection\, challenge\, and collaboration with peers who share a commitment to advancing volunteer leadership. \nYou can attend individual sessions or the full series\, earning certificates for each session you complete and a programme certificate for full participation. \nUpcoming sessions:\nReframing Volunteer Teams – 5 March 2026\nLeading Leaders – 11 June 2026\nInnovation and Change Leadership – 1 October 2026 \nAVM Members’ discount\nAVM members are eligible for a discount on the event ticket price. SUMMARY:Volunteer Inductions - The Good\, The Bad and What They Could Be
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 29 January 2026 | 9.30am to 11.30am | Online via Zoom\nTicket prices: Members £27 | Non-Members £43\nHow do we get volunteers off to a great start\, ready to excel at their role?\nHow do we ensure volunteers engage with induction processes?\nWhat should we cover\, and what should we leave out of volunteer inductions? \nVolunteer inductions can be the make or break for volunteers. You’ve got them in and now is your real opportunity to show them what you do\, how you do it\, and why they should stick around to volunteer with you. \nDespite this we know that with stretched schedules and competing priorities this can often mean that we leave volunteers to do some online learning\, read some policies and ask us questions if they have them\, but this doesn’t lend itself to a great experience. \nEach charity will be different but there is one thing that we all want and that is to provide our volunteers with a great experience – how we get there might look different\, but the benefits of a great induction are extensive. \nIn this session we’ll look at how you can improve your inductions by looking at case studies from two charities who overhauled theirs\, and hear about the benefits of doing so. \nThis event will cover:\n\nWhat makes a good induction.\nHow to get buy-in for creating a new induction process from senior leadership.\nHow to go about developing an induction package.\nThe benefits of a comprehensive\, volunteer focused induction.\n\nAbout the speakers\nKaren Gurney – Volunteer Development and Experience Manager at Oxfam\nKaren Gurney is Oxfam’s Volunteer Development and Experience Manager for London and the South East. She has spent over a decade championing inclusive volunteering\, reshaping how organisations welcome\, support\, and celebrate their volunteers. From redesigning Oxfam’s volunteer induction to pioneering new ways of engagement\, Karen is passionate about making volunteering rewarding\, flexible and open to all. \nDan Smith – Volunteering Development Manager\, Noah’s Ark\nDan Smith is Noah’s Ark’s Volunteering Development Manager\, leading on the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers ensuring their introduction to the organisation is supportive and welcoming. Since joining the charity Dan has developed new roles and services which directly support the work of the charity and those who use it. Dan is passionate about ensuring the time which volunteers are giving is meaningful and effective and their impact is maximised. \nAVM Members’ discount\nAVM members are eligible for a discount on the event ticket price. SUMMARY:Recognising & Rewarding Volunteers
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 26 March 2025 | 9.30am to 12.30pm | Online via Zoom\nTicket prices: Members £27 | Non-members £43 \nWhether raising funds\, cheering at events or working directly with your beneficiaries\, volunteers play a critical part in a charity’s success\, so recognising them appropriately is fundamental to the volunteers’ experience and your overall retention strategy. \nAt this event\, we will be joined by three speakers who will all provide insights into various aspects of recognising and rewarding volunteers. \nVictoria Dickenson\, a charity consultant\, will give an overview of the importance of volunteer recruitment and how it starts from the moment they are recruited. Victoria will draw on her extensive knowledge of the voluntary sector and also incorporate some recent findings from sector research on current trends.   \nJoe Langtree will speak about the Room to Reward awards programme. Room to Reward is a fantastic concept where hotels all around the country donate unsold rooms so that volunteers nominated by their charity can benefit from a two night hotel stay. There is no cost to the charity and Joe will explain this simple but rewarding scheme.   \nLeah Parolin from MacMillan Cancer Support will talk about how MacMillan co-created their MacMillan Moments ongoing recognition scheme with the input and feedback directly from volunteers. From survey feedback the charity realised there was a gap in their recognition programme which needed to fit a diverse range of volunteers and that recognised those volunteers who need a special thank you throughout the year. This concept was low cost and easily adaptable to any organisation. Leah will also speak about some of the charity’s other methods of recognition.  \nThis event will cover:\n\n A strategic overview of the importance of recognition based on recent research\n Ideas on successful recognition with little or no budget\n How to make existing volunteers feel valued and appreciated\, encouraging them to stay involved and spread the word\n How to involve volunteers in the design of your recognition programme to ensure it recognises the diversity of your volunteers and is meaningful to them.\n\nAbout the Speakers\nVictoria Dickinson –  Consultant\nVictoria Dickinson is an independent consultant (VA Consultancy) bringing over 30 years of expertise in volunteer management. She specialises in collaborating with organisations to design and implement volunteering programmes that foster lasting\, positive change. Victoria has recently partnered with organisations such as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission\, the English-Speaking Union\, the Touch Trust\, and Advocacy People\, delivering impactful solutions tailored to their needs. As an experienced trainer\, she conducts high-quality workshops covering all aspects of volunteering\, equipping individuals and teams with the knowledge and skills needed for success. In addition to her own consultancy work\, Victoria is a NCVO Associate Consultant and a consultant with HRAtkinson. She contributes her time and expertise as a Trustee at Community People and volunteers to support young children’s education.  \nJoe Langtree – Room to Reward \nJoe Langtree joined Room to Reward in October 2018 and became Operations Director in early 2020. Room to Reward uses donated unsold rooms from over 900 hotels across the UK to give nominated volunteers the chance to enjoy a well-earned break. So far\, R2R partners have donated over 3000 breaks to volunteers nominated by over 1000 organisations. R2R breaks are for 2 nights\, 2 people\, on a bed & breakfast basis and at no cost. \nLeah Parolin – MacMillan Cancer Support\nLeah Parolin is a Volunteering Support Officer at Macmillan Cancer Support\, working for the past 4 years as part of a team whose remit is to improve the overall volunteer experience. SUMMARY:National Inclusion Week Event: Volunteering\, Neurodiversity and Inclusion
DESCRIPTION:Monday 23 September 2024 | 1pm to 4pm | Online via Zoom\nTicket prices: Members £27 | Non-members £43\nDid you know that an estimated 1 in 7 people – more than 14% of the population in the UK are neurodivergent? \nAre you a neurodivergent volunteering professional\, or do you have people who are neurodivergent in your teams? \nDo you want to make a positive change in your organisation for volunteers and staff who are neurodivergent? \nNeurodiversity brings many strengths to teams – whether this be volunteer or staff teams – including attention to detail\, innovation\, adaptability\, deep focus\, problem-solving\, communication and creativity – to name a few! Having a well-informed and strengths-based approach to neurodiversity in your teams is key to recruitment and retention\, as well as honouring diversity. \nThis event brings together neurodivergent speakers and specialists experienced in volunteer management and leadership\, with the aim of increasing understanding and exploring practical approaches to creating environments that are more inclusive\, welcoming and positive for neurodivergent volunteers and staff. \nThis event will provide you with the opportunity to:\n\nIncrease your awareness and knowledge of neurodiversity – the language\, concepts and current understanding in this field\nLearn from lived experience of neurodiversity in volunteer management\, with insights about the importance of inclusive practice in this area\nExplore the benefits of embracing and celebrating neurodiversity within organisations\nFind out how digital skills and tools can help neurodivergent (and neurotypical) managers and leaders in their work and in creating content that is more accessible for teams\nDiscover resources and external services freely available for neurodivergent people in the workplace\n\nAbout the presentations\nHow to create inclusive volunteer environments with Sarah Philippe \nThe terms ‘neurodiversity’ and ‘neurodivergent’ have gained prominence in recent years\, with new HR hiring trends emphasising their significance. In this session we will explore the benefits of fostering effective volunteer programs by embracing and celebrating neurodiversity within organisations. We will discuss how to create inclusive volunteer environments that promote the idea of ‘grace’ and meeting each of us where we are at. \nThroughout this session\, we will delve into key aspects of neurodiversity\, including defining the terms ‘neurodiversity’ and ‘neurodivergent.’ We’ll also explore strategies for creating an environment that fosters belonging\, crafting comprehensive position descriptions\, and ways to secure staff buy-in. This presentation encourages organisations to embrace diverse perspectives\, challenging conventional notions of ‘normal.’ \nMemory Shelves and Digital Toolkits with Jennifer Murphy \n\nWorking memory is a cognitive system that determines how much short-term information we can retain at any given moment. Often called the ‘memory shelf\,’ this capacity can be notably reduced in neurodivergent individuals. As a leader of volunteers\, your ability to manage and recall key details and actions relies heavily on this capacity. When faced with a limited memory shelf\, managing these details can be particularly challenging. \nIn this session\, we will explore practical digital tools\, including AI\, digital planners\, and automation workflows\, designed to support and enhance your working memory. These tools will help you gain confidence as a leader and create content that is more accessible and effective for your team. \nWe will examine the benefits of digital versus analogue systems and identify which toolkits are most suitable for personal\, team\, and organisational use. Additionally\, we will cover GDPR and IT policies to ensure your digital practices remain compliant and secure. \nFurthermore\, we will discuss how diagnosis journeys\, stigmas\, and stereotypes can affect the support that neurodivergent individuals receive in the workplace. We will explore strategies for supporting team members\, including reasonable adjustments\, different working styles\, and practical advice on accessing additional support and equipment. \nAbout the speakers\n\nSarah Philippe \nSarah Philippe is passionate about volunteerism\, accessibility\, history\, and ice cream! She has 14 years of experience working with volunteers\, including the last eight in volunteer administration. In 2021\, Sarah earned her Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA)\, and always a consummate learner\, she has completed certificates in DEIB (Diversity\, Equity\, Inclusion\, and Belonging) at the University of South Florida\, SHRM\, and LinkedIn Learning. \nSarah has presented ‘Neurodiversity in Volunteerism’ at conferences and webinars since 2022\, most recently she presented at the ASC training conference in April 2024. Additionally\, Sarah’s work can be found in “New Voices and Perspectives in Volunteer Engagement 2023\,” edited by Erin Spink. When not advocating for accessibility and inclusivity in volunteerism\, Sarah enjoys trying new ice cream flavours\, listening to history podcasts with her cat\, and reading the Magic Treehouse series with her nieces and nephews. \nJennifer Murphy \nJenny Murphy is the Volunteer Manager at the Museum of the Home and serves as the Communications Executive for the Heritage Volunteer Group. With extensive experience in designing and implementing volunteer programs across various museums and heritage sites\, Jenny has played a key role in developing new infrastructure\, roles\, and training initiatives. As a dyslexic professional\, Jenny has self-taught digital skills to support her work\, which have now become a core component of her practice. Her expertise in creating websites and systems has significantly enhanced volunteer engagement and improved overall volunteer experiences. \nAVM Members’ discount\nAVM members are eligible for a discount on the event ticket price. SUMMARY:Digital Skills and Inclusion in Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:Digital Skills and Inclusion in Volunteering \nWednesday 19 June 2024 | 9.30am to 12.30pm | Online via Zoom\nTicket prices: Members £25 | Non-members £40\nAcross the volunteering sector\, organisations are increasingly adopting a ‘digital first’ approach\, looking to embrace the flexibility and efficiency of digital tools and systems.  \nAlthough the world is increasingly moving online\, we know not all our volunteers (and colleagues that work with\, and support\, volunteers) are confident to use digital tools. We also know there are barriers around access to devices\, connection to the internet\, and with an unfolding Cost of Living Crisis\, the ability to afford these tools. \nAt this interactive online event we will hear from a range of speakers who are working to support volunteers to develop their digital skills and confidence and break down barriers around access to digital initiatives and developments. \nThis event will cover:\n\nWhat digital means to you as a volunteer manager\, or volunteering leader\, your colleagues and the volunteers you work with and how to make digital work for you\, your volunteers and your organisation\nThe wider context around digital exclusion – and the positive impact digital inclusion can have on people’s lives\nDigital tools\, platforms\, resources and approaches to engage volunteers\, and colleagues who work with volunteers \nBarriers to accessing digital systems and how as individuals and organisations we can work together to break down those barriers and how to ensure our volunteering roles and opportunities are digitally inclusive\nHow to support volunteers (and colleagues working with\, and supporting volunteers) to develop their digital skills and confidence with insight and case studies from the Scouts and Barclays Digital Eagles on how they have supported volunteers to develop their digital skills\n\nSpeakers\nTori Ellaway – Head of Digital Practice\, Centre for the Acceleration of Social Technology (CAST) \nTori Ellaway has a diverse background in digital roles\, primarily within the charity sector. As Head of Digital Practice at CAST\, she’s all about helping nonprofit organisations get savvy with digital tools. But it’s not just about tech – she’s also passionate about supporting individuals to level up their digital skills and ways of working\, so they can navigate the digital world with ease. \nHilary Nugent – Community Engagement Manager – Volunteering\, Good Things Foundation \nHilary has worked in volunteer management for over 16 years\, in both large national organisations and small local charities. She has been the Volunteer Manager at Good Things Foundation\, the UKs leading digital inclusion charity for 5 years.  \nGood Things is a social change charity\, who help people improve their lives through digital\, by working in partnership with thousands of community organisations across the UK (the National Digital Inclusion Network) . \nShe runs training and information sessions for this network as well as developing employee volunteer schemes with Strategic Partners and running her own small team of volunteers.  \nShe openly admits that before she started working for Good Things her understanding of the widespread and complex nature of digital exclusion was practically non-existent so she is keen to spread the word amongst her AVM colleagues! \nGethyn Williams – specialist in non-profit development \nGethyn has spent over 20 years working in the voluntary and community sector across England and Wales in fields as diverse as sport\, youth\, environment and disability. Specialising in volunteering initiatives for the past decade he’s worked on strategy for the London 2012 legacy\, within central government at the height of the Covid pandemic and run national programmes at Volunteering Matters. \nA freelancer since 2020\, Gethyn now focuses on helping non-profits to develop their business\, capture their impact and enhance their volunteer programmes. In recent times he has supported the roll out of a range of national\, high-profile volunteering initiatives\, including the Vision for Volunteering and The Big Help Out. \nThe diversity of these approaches to volunteering provides the thread that now runs through his work – a belief that volunteering is still largely misunderstood or under-valued\, but that by engaging in all of its forms we can help raise volunteering to a level of appreciation and awareness that its social value clearly justifies. \nKirsty Adams – Digital Eagle and Money Mentor team\, Barclays \nKirsty has worked for Barclays for coming up to 19 years\, with the majority of this time in their branches supporting customers and colleagues. She then joined the Digital Eagle and Money Mentor team in 2020 and her role now consists of supporting Barclay’s customers and communities with digital and money skills through it’s Digital Wings platform. \nTom Bell – Digital Skills Community of Practice Lead\, Scouts \nAVM members’ discount\nAVM members are eligible for a discount on the event ticket price. SUMMARY:The Positive Impact of Micro-volunteering
DESCRIPTION:The Positive Impact of Micro-volunteering\nThursday 25 April 2024 | 9.30am to 12.30pm | Online via Zoom\nTicket prices: Members £25 | Non-members £40 \nMicro-volunteering is a fantastic way for people to contribute to the causes that they care about because it offers a flexible and accessible way for busy people to make a positive impact to their community. \nAt this event you will learn about new ways to engage with volunteers by offering flexible opportunities for them to get involved in\, and how you can create new diverse opportunities instead of the traditional roles that are typically offered. \nYou will also gain an understanding about how technology can help to promote and measure micro-volunteering and generate ideas to increase the awareness of your charity and its volunteering opportunities. \nThis event will cover:\n\nWhat is micro-volunteering?\nExamples of micro-volunteer tasks\nDifference between regular traditional volunteering compared to micro-volunteering\nRecruit and engage micro-volunteers\nHow to measure the impact?\n\nAbout the sessions and speakers:\nMaking Micro-volunteering Happen – with Collette Brown – Senior Volunteering Development Manager at Young Lives Vs Cancer\nThe session will explore how Young Lives vs Cancer implemented their micro volunteering portal from an idea to making it happen. The session will look into the types of micro volunteering opportunities they offer from home based roles to roles in the local community\, as well as how Young Lives vs Cancer hope to implement opportunities across the whole organisation. \nCollette has worked and volunteered in the voluntary sector for over 16 years\, in Regional Fundraising\, Management and Volunteering. As a development manager Collette loves nothing more than a challenge and helping to make volunteering as easy as possible for those who want to get involved. Collette’s focus now is on making micro volunteering a success at Young Lives vs Cancer after recognising that volunteering needs to be more accessible and easy to access for all. \nMicro-volunteering 3 Ways\, with Emma Roberts – Head of Volunteer Engagement and Experience at RSPB\nThe session will take a whistle stop tour through the different ways the RSPB engages the public through Micro Volunteering\, One-Off Opportunities and ‘other’ means. How these roles and the people engaged are managed\, promoted\, and supported through an onward journey.  \nEmma has worked within volunteering since joining the RSPB\, initially as a Volunteer Development Officer in RSPB Cymru before moving to the UKHQ team to deliver project focussed work. The Head of Volunteering Engagement and Experience is a new role within the RSPB\, Emma has a leadership role focussing on all elements of volunteering at the RSPB and she has the functional lead for the Volunteering Development Department. Through and with volunteers we want to grow organisational capacity and capability to deliver the RSPB’s strategy to 2030.  \nMicro-volunteering – a core role that started as an experiment\, with Brian Reeves – Head of Volunteer Experience at RSPCA\nThe RSPCA introduced a Microvolunteering role in 2020\, just before lockdown.  Since then\, the role has grown rapidly\, attracting thousands of new volunteers to the charity.  Microvolunteering has helped them attract new volunteers from backgrounds they don’t traditionally reach\, increasing their representation.  It also opened up a new recruitment channel for other roles\, and opportunities for volunteers to add value to new projects through their participation.  Find out about the RSPCA’s journey with Microvolunteering\, the mistakes they’ve made and the benefits they’ve seen.     \nBrian is the Head of Volunteer Experience for the RSPCA where he leads a team delivering the charity’s ambitious strategic volunteering plans.  He has worked in volunteer operations and development roles for the past 14 years at the RSPCA\, PDSA and Make a Wish UK.  He mentors volunteering professionals through the AVM Mentoring Scheme and volunteers in his community.   \nAVM members’ discount\nAVM members are eligible for a discount on the event ticket price. SUMMARY:Using the Theory of Change for Meaningful Action
DESCRIPTION:Using the Theory of Change for Meaningful Action\nThursday 7 March 2024 | 9.30am – 1.00pm | On Zoom\nMembers £40 | Non-members £60 | Maximum capacity 20\nThis half day introductory workshop will introduce you to the Theory of Change for creating meaningful action and show you how you can map out a theory of change and use it to plan small and large changes within your organisation\, whether you are developing a volunteer strategy\, devising new volunteering roles\, tracking implementation\, or measuring impact. \nEvery development program rests on a theory of how and why the program will work and lead to social impact.  A theory of change formalises this\, representing how the development program will use resources to conduct activities that can lead to changes in behaviour and improvements in people’s lives.  It’s a great way to plan for meaningful change and action. \nIn creating a Theory of Change\, important questions are asked: What is the goal that the program wants to achieve?  What does the program do?  What are the services arising from the program?  What are the real changes in people’s lives that result from the achievement of the outputs?  What will lead to the achievement of the goal of the program? \nWhether you are developing a volunteer strategy\, devising new volunteering roles\, tracking implementation\, or measuring impact\, a theory of change lays out the steps necessary to achieve your goals.  It’s important to map out a theory of change to ensure teams have a shared vision and a clear pathway to achieve success.  A theory of change is a living document to be maintained and revisited to ensure it reflects the current program and its context. \nThis event will cover:\n\nWhat is a Theory of Change\, why is it useful and how is it different from a logic model?\nWhat are the component parts of a Theory of Change? (Covering key concepts like assumptions and outcome chains)\nWhat kind of models might work for you?\n\nWe will use a combination of teaching and practical exercises to answer these questions.\nAbout the speaker\n \nNicola Lynch is a Social Value consultant & Impact Management Specialist working across the UK & Ireland.  She works closely with Social Value International and member networks in the UK & Ireland\, is an SVI Accredited Trainer and she holds an Associate Trainer role with New Economics Foundation (NEF Consulting). \nAlongside her consultancy she has also recently been the National Lead on Civil Society for Social Value UK and specialises in supporting the voluntary\, charitable and social enterprise sectors. She is one of only 20 practitioners in the UK qualified to Advanced Practitioner status by Social Value International and her work is informed by the very best principles of stakeholder-empowered qualitative research. \nShe supports a wide range of organisations to understand\, articulate\, measure and maximise their impact through the application of the social value principles – putting people and planet first. Nicola is a regular speaker at events and a popular purveyor of workshops\, training & coaching on a range of topics relevant to improving the delivery\, measurement & management of both impact and value.
