We’re delighted to bring together expert speakers to share their experiences of creating an inclusive and accessible recruitment and onboarding experience for their volunteers and challenges they met along the way. They will also share useful tips that you may be able to implement in your own organisations.

At this event you will:

  • Hear ideas on how you could adapt your recruitment and onboarding process to be more inclusive
  • Learn how organisations have overcome some of the barriers to inclusive recruitment
  • Reasonable adjustments that can be made to ensure your recruitment process is accessible to all
  • How to attract a diverse range of volunteers and what you might need to consider
  • Have an opportunity to plan your next steps, in small groups with your peers

Our speakers

James Whyte 

James Whyte has held volunteering leadership roles for over two decades. He is currently volunteer development manager at Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans and is also a freelance trainer and Investing in Volunteers assessor for Volunteer Scotland.

Throughout his career he has worked extensively in charities focusing on inclusion and diversity. His areas of professional experience and knowledge include visual impairment, LGBTQ+ people, HIV prevention & care, youth work, and sexual health. James has been a member of Scotland’s national strategic group for inclusion in volunteering since its inception in 2017 and is also a member of the governance group for the development of The Scottish Government’s new volunteering action plan.

Jo Milligan

Jo Milligan has worked in various organisations specialising in volunteer-led services. She has a particular interest in diversifying volunteer portfolios and a strong commitment to ensuring that volunteers experience a person-centred and empowerment approach, during their engagement with an organisation. Jo has experience in the field of disability, crisis support, lone parenting, visual impairment and continuous improvement.

Stephanie Mallender

Stephanie is Development Manager – Volunteering at Sport England. Stephanie will be talking about their recent research into workforce diversity projects, as well as innovation research, and the Vision for Volunteering over the next 10 years. She will also be joined by the England and Wales Cricket Board, who will be sharing insights into the barriers and opportunities that exist within the sport and the work they are doing to understand and overcome them.
